Background
Abdullah Al Salem University (AASU) is a newly established English-medium, research-based public university in Kuwait. AASU aims to provide an interdisciplinary environment for teaching and research. It also aims to nurture the de-velopment of novel and innovative solutions to address national and global challenges. AASU is accepting applications for faculty member positions for the Fall and Spring of 2024/2025.
The College of Business & Entrepreneurship at AASU offers degree programs in various disciplines listed below:
- Digital Marketing
- Entrepreneurship & Innovation
- Human Resources Management
- Supply Chain & Logistics Management
- Accounting: Analytics or Information Systems
- Finance: Risk Management or FinTech
The focus of teaching and research covers a broad range of traditional, emerging, and interdisciplinary areas that will help address impending societal challenges. The programs are closely linked to the activities of the Center for Quantitative Finance and Risk Management, the Center for Research in Entre-preneurship and Innovation, the Center for Innovative Learning, and the Cen-ter for Health and Wellbeing.
AASU is hereby inviting applications for the ranks of Professor, Associate Pro-fessor, and Assistant Professor for the 2024/2025 academic year. Candidates should have a proven track record for excellence in teaching at both the un-dergraduate and graduate level and also have an established research record, demonstrated by publishing high-impact papers and other applicable research outcomes.
Expectations, Essential Duties & Responsibilities
The selected faculty members are expected to teach deep subject knowledge including teaching key concepts, current and relevant research, methodologies, tools and techniques, along with meaningful applications. Additionally, faculty members are expected to work closely and maintain continuous affiliation with relevant research centres at AASU.
Specifically, faculty members at the college will be responsible for:
- Teaching undergraduate and graduate courses.
- Engaging in interdisciplinary basic, applied, or policy research.
- Contributing to a thriving research program by engaging in national and international scientific collaborations.
- Receiving grants from local and international funding agencies.
- Mentoring and advising undergraduate and graduate students.
- Engaging in continuous scholarly activities and professional develop-ment.
- Serving on program level, college level, and university level committees.
- Performing any additional duties assigned by the program chair, college dean, and AASU management.
Required Qualifications
- Applicants must have a bachelor’s degree in business, Engineering, Natural Sciences, Architecture, or Social sciences from an accredited university with a GPA of very good or equivalent.
- For the Digital Marketing positions, applicants must have a Ph.D. in Marketing or any related field with a GPA of at least 3.00 (out of 4.00) or equivalent.
- For the Entrepreneurship & Innovation as well as Human Resources Management positions, applicants must have a Ph.D. in Management with a concentration in Strategy, Entrepreneurship, Innovation, or Human Resources or a Ph.D. in Management Science and Engineering with a concentration in Strategy or Technology Entrepreneurship, or a PhD in Economics, or Ph.D. in Management Information Systems or Computer Engineering with a concentration in Strategy or Technology Entrepreneurship or any related field. Applicants must have a GPA of at least 3.00 out of 4.00 or equivalent.
- For the Supply Chain & Logistics Management positions, applicants must have a Ph.D. in Operations Management, or Ph.D. in Management Information Systems or Computer Engineering with a concentration in Strategy or Technology Entrepreneurship, or a PhD in Economics, or a Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering or any related field with a GPA of at least 3.00 out of 4.00 or equivalent.
- For the Accounting: Analytics and Information Systems positions, applicants must have a Ph.D. in Accounting and Information Systems, Business Analytics, Information Systems, Operations Research or Management Science, or any related field with a GPA of at least 3.00 out of 4.00 or equivalent.
- For the Finance: Risk Management and FinTech positions, applicants must have a Ph.D. in Finance, Economics, Accounting, Financial Engineering, or Quantitative Finance with a concentration in risk management, financial technology, banking and finance, or Computer Science, or Information Technology with a concentration in FinTech, Operations Research, Management Science, or Business Administration with a concentration in Finance, Technology or Risk Management and Insurance or any related field with a GPA of at least 3.00 out of 4.00 or equivalent.
- Applicants should have a distinguished teaching record, including experience teaching at an academic institution.
- Applicants must have an active and continued proven track record of research, including high quality publications in the relevant field in refereed international journals listed and indexed in the Web of Science (WoS). The h-index (ISI/SCOPUS) should be no less than 15 for Professor ranks, 8 for Associate Professor ranks and 4 for Assistant Professor ranks.
- Recent publications should be in the field of the program the applicants are applying for.
- Applicants should have a strong record of mentoring and advising students and supervising other students related activities.
- Applicants must have the potential to attract funding from external funding sources/agencies, both locally and internationally.
- Applicants should have previous experience in administrative, academic, or executive committees at the level of the program, college, or university.
- Applicants should possess strong communication skills (in English), both written and verbal, as well as exceptional organizational skills, and leadership skills in a multicultural and international environment with the ability to pursue and foster collaboration.
- All applicants' degrees must be listed in the National Bureau for Academic Accreditation and Education Quality Assurance (NBAQ) or approved by AASU.
- For Assistant Professor ranks, it is preferable to have a Ph.D. degree from one of the top 100 Universities according to US News, Times Higher Education, or QS rankings.
Required Experience
Applicants must currently hold the position for which they are applying and have a minimum of 4 years of residency in each rank before any academic promotion.
Full Professor
- A Full Professor must have experience as a faculty member of not less than eight years in an accredited university, listed in the National Bureau for Academic Accreditation and Education Quality Assurance (NBAQ) or approved by AASU, after being recruited on the rank of Assistant Professor.
- A Full Professor must have been scientifically recruited/promoted to the rank of Associate Professor and Professor at one of the institutions listed in the National Bureau for Academic Accreditation and Education Quality Assurance (NBAQ) or approved by AASU.
Associate Professor
- An Associate Professor must have experience as a faculty member of not less than four years in an accredited university, listed in the National Bureau for Academic Accreditation and Education Quality Assurance (NBAQ) or approved by AASU after being recruited on the rank of Assistant Professor.
- An Associate Professor must have been scientifically recruited/promoted to the rank of Assistant Professor and Associate Professor at one of the institutions listed in the National Bureau for Academic Accreditation and Education Quality Assurance (NBAQ) or approved by AASU.
Assistant Professor
- An Assistant Professor must have experience as a faculty member of not less than two years in an accredited university, listed in the National Bureau for Academic Accreditation and Education Quality Assurance (NBAQ)or approved by AASU after being recruited on the rank of Assistant Professor.
Required Documents

- Cover Letter - Introducing the applicant and stating what program and rank the applicant is applying for and why.
- Updated and comprehensive CV, which should include information on employment history, teaching experience, committees and administrative experience, full list of publications, research activities and grants, students’ supervision, consulting, honors, awards, and others as applicable.
- Scanned copies of all academic degrees and transcripts.
- Evidence of teaching effectiveness, including the student evaluation records.
- Statement of research interests.
- Statement of teaching philosophy and interests.
- Official documents of chronological experience.
- Names/affiliation and contact details of at least three professional referees.
- Copies of two citation reports (Web of Science and/or Scopus).
Authenticated copies of all degrees must be provided by shortlisted applicants.
